Villa B21 is a private detached house located in Kristiansund, set within the exposed and shifting climate of the western Norwegian coastline.

The project is grounded in the character of the site, its proximity to the sea, the prevailing winds and the intensity of weather.
Rather than shielding the dwelling entirely from these conditions, the ambition has been to establish a calibrated relationship between shelter and openness,
allowing light, views and natural forces to actively inform the spatial organization.

The building is structured with a clear dual orientation in plan. Toward the north-east, the volume is more enclosed, providing protection from wind and weather.
Toward the south-west, the house opens through larger glazed surfaces and articulated outdoor spaces, framing views toward the sea and drawing daylight deep into the interior. This balance between protection and exposure defines the spatial experience of the dwelling.

The architectural form emerges from an interpretation of the site’s natural dynamics. The movement of waves, the force of wind, and the physical properties of water and ice, breaking into fragments and faceted planes, have informed the building’s geometry. Through an abstracted formal process, these natural phenomena are translated into a sharply defined, angular geometry composed of white planar surfaces and precise, taut edges. The architecture reflects the intensity of the coastal landscape while maintaining clarity and restraint.

The material palette draws from the muted tones of sea, rock and sky, anchoring the building within its surroundings while articulating a contemporary expression.

The building was completed in 2025.
